THE CLIENT

Our client is a £150 million European cable manufacturing business providing technology solutions for infrastructure across rail, telecoms, cable TV and buildings sectors. They are a very successful and rapidly growing business founded on innovation and customer excellence.

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Having acquired a manufacturing business in Northern Spain, the group committed to a significant investment to modernise the plant and introduce world-class manufacturing.

THE ROLE

To lead this “world-class manufacturing” project, our client needed an Operations Director with a proven track record of delivering transformational change programmes in a very well established culture. The ability to educate, influence and change a workforce spanning several decades and in Northern Spain was critical.

The client also wanted an individual who had worked for a US or UK business and understood their business philosophies and ethos. No one within the newly acquired company met the brief so the decision was made to recruit from outside the business.

The Solution

Having successfully recruited in over 20 countries and with over 10 years’ experience of appointing transformation specialists, Collingwood were in a strong position to understand and advise on our client’s problem.

Northern Spain was a strong area for automotive manufacturing and hosted a diverse portfolio of international manufacturing businesses supplying to OEM’s globally. There were also several international telecoms technology manufacturers across Spain who employed individuals with both our client’s industry background and who operated “world-class” manufacturing.

We used our market research and headhunting expertise to provide a focused recruitment campaign. We raised the profile of our client and engaged potential candidates through effective communication.

The role jointly reported to the group CEO and Spanish Managing Director.

The outcome

Collingwood's consultants made several trips to Spain to face to face interview a longlist of 15 interested candidates in Madrid, Barcelona, Bilbao and Santander. Our competency and behaviour focused assessments resulted in a shortlist of 5 candidates being recommended to our clients to meet.

The candidates met their cultural and behaviour requirements aligned to their sought transformation and “world-class” manufacturing experience.

A successful appointment was made.
