OUR CLIENT

Our client is an industry leading, technology-led, provider of infrastructure based services to the rail sector.

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Having partnered with Collingwood to provide them with search services for executive and hard-to-fill positions, the company are in a position to expand a number of their sites. The Design Engineering Manager role is crucial to the development and growth of these sites and overall design function of the business.

THE ROLE

The Signalling Design Engineering Manager role was an existing position within the business, but one which had proved challenging to fill due to a shortage of qualified individuals within the sector. Our client needed a highly skilled and experienced Railway Signalling Design Engineer who also had team strong leadership and strategic experience.

A highly complex role, our candidate would require proven railway signalling experience with skills across design, operations, management, health and safety, systems and processes with full project and financial responsibility for an integral part of the business.

OUR SOLUTION

Time was invested with the key stakeholders to understand the organisation and culture of the team. With a full understanding of the brief, Collingwood produced an assignment specification for the role, including company information, job description, candidate profile and remuneration package.

Using experience and knowledge of the industry, a list of target companies was compiled and presented to the client. From this agreed list, key individuals were identified and approached confidentially to discuss the opportunity.

Our client had acknowledged that this was a difficult assignment to find individuals for and we were therefore delighted when a candidate shortlist of 5 was presented. Alongside the shortlist, Collingwood provided individual interview reports highlighting the key strengths and weaknesses of each candidate.

THE RESULT

The Human Resources Director and Head of Department met with 3 of the 5 candidates for their interview process. A full, in-depth behavioural assessment that Collingwood provide for support was carried out on the 3 candidates.

Feedback from the interviews was very positive and subsequently, an offer was made to 2 of the 3 candidates. Collingwood managed the offer process for both candidates through to acceptance.

As the assignment was highlighted initially by the client as one that would be difficult to fill, the result has been very positive for our client, with Collingwood exceeding their expectations.
