Medical Director: Healthcare Funding

THE CLIENT

Our client, Bupa UK, are a leading international healthcare group. They run care homes, health centres, dental centres and hospitals, offering personal and company health insurance. They provide home healthcare, workplace health services, health assessments and chronic disease management services including health coaching. 

THE ROLE

The Medical Director (healthcare funding) role was a key senior position, reporting to and working very closely with the UK Medical Director. It was deemed a critical leadership role in the development of the UK healthcare funding business. Bupa UK required an individual with exceptional strategic, operational and clinical expertise.

THE SOLUTION

Detailed discussions were held with Bupa UK in order to gain a deep insight the healthcare funding division. This allowed us to fully understand the technical and behavioural characteristics the individual would need to possess in order to shape the healthcare funding offering to the UK market.

Through a collaborative approach, it was agreed that the search would focus on CCGs, the independent care sector and private medical insurance providers.

An extremely rigorous search was carried out, with an approach made to over 160 medical leaders. After thorough telephone interviews with more than 10 candidates, 5 were chosen for face-to-face, competency based interview & assessment.

THE RESULT

A four-stage interview process was undertaken by Senior and Executive Management at Bupa. 

To add to their own appraisal, the interview panel were aided by comprehensive interview notes (provided by Collingwood after the initial assessment).

After evaluating each candidates performance and fit for the business a unanimous decision was made on who to appoint.
