Huge growth potential for pockets of Renewables Sector in 2012

Recent back-peddling by the government in relation to reductions to the Solar PV feed-in-tariffs (FITs) has led to widespread panic by manufacturers and installers alike in the Solar market this quarter, as contractors rush to meet the deadlines of December 12th. This has led to many diversifying into other areas of renewables such as wind, geothermal and in particular the Heat Pump market. With the Renewable Heat Incentive or RHI due for launch in 2012, would-be solar businesses are needing to be more versatile moving into the new year and many are now seeking the aid of Collingwood in sourcing experienced experts of ground-source and air-source heat pump technology for both technically and commercially orientated positions. That said, the FIT's continue to exist in solar, albeit at a far lower rate than the industry has enjoyed until now, but businesses continue to invest into the new year and that means recruitment.

In wind, Fergus Ewing's announcement this week that that offshore wind could support almost 50,000 direct and indirect jobs in Scotland by 2020, generating over £7bn for the economy, is proof enough that wind power in the UK is a growth market, with real potential for adding a significant contribution to employment in 2012 and beyond.

Collingwood's Renewables Business Unit Manager, Rob McKay stated this week "The challenge now, is that demand for high-calibre talent with real industry expertise has outstripped supply and that's where we come in. More and more renewables businesses I talk to claim they feel safe, despite a generally gloomy outlook in the wider economy. Not only that, but certain areas continue to flourish by adapting to market changes and legislation. What is paramount however is that companies hire the right staff and that means using a targeted selection process. We thank all of our Renewables clients for the business we've enjoyed in 2011 and look forward to working with them on more exciting headhunting projects in the new year."
