Head of Ecommerce - Home Decor

THE CLIENT

Our client is a €350 million European business, specialising in the sourcing and distribution of home décor and DIY products, selling to both B2B and B2C.

THE BUSINESS CHALLENGE

Armed with a strong growth strategy for the UK, the Board identified the importance of increasing their online presence and creating a new revenue stream through Digital Marketing and Ecommerce. With no internal experience or understanding of the skills required to launch an Ecommerce strategy, our client retained Collingwood Executive Recruitment as their trusted advisor to gain value from our own expertise and understanding of the Ecommerce sector.

THE ROLE

The role required for this business was that of ‘Head of Ecommerce’. The role required the candidate to develop and launch an Ecommerce strategy from scratch, including website design, PPC, SEO, affiliate marketing, database development, email marketing campaigns and the creation of a fully transactional website with strong customer service support. The role also required the candidate to develop relationships with key online retail partners alongside driving their Amazon marketplace sales.

THE SOLUTION

To ensure we found the perfect candidate for the business, we spent significant time upfront with the Managing Director and Sales Director to understand the role, the requirement and the targets that the individual was expected to achieve. We then compiled and developed an Assignment Specification on behalf our client which consisted of a company profile, job description, candidate competencies and remuneration to lay out strong parameters in which to benchmark candidates against. After initially identifying over 100 individuals, we then provided a list of 9 candidates to our clients to ensure both parties expectations were aligned before Collingwood’s consultants met each candidate face to face. From these interviews and backed by Psychometric assessments, we shortlisted five candidates for our client to meet.

THE RESULT

A two stage interview process was supported by Collingwood’s in depth interview notes and behavioural profiles. After providing our salary benchmark, our client was able to offer an attractive package to the selected candidate. As with all our assignments, Collingwood then managed all contract negotiations between all parties resulting in a successful placement.
